No fewer than seven people were injured while over 20 houses were razed after a civil disturbance in Dan Zara and Anguwani Rimi communities of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Tuesday.
The violence was said to be as a result of disagreement between the two communities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, the clashes led to destruction of property in the area.
He said, ” On the January 7, 2015 at about 14:00hrs (2pm), disagreement ensued between Dan Zara and Anguwan Rimi communities in Bogoro LGA of Bauchi State. As a result, the warring factions engaged in a free-for-all and wanton destruction of property in the area.
“No loss of life, but seven persons, who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to Malar Clinic for treatment and over 23 houses were set ablaze.”
Mohammed said normalcy had been restored to the area by a combined team of security forces, noting that the operative had been intensified within and outside the town to ensure safety and security of the people.
He added that that eight suspects were arrested in connection with the civil disturbance, saying investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause of the crisis.
Meanwhile, the State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 471 suspects in connection with drug offences and seized 1,035.938kg of assorted drugs from January to December,2014.
State Commander of the agency, Mohammed Sokoto, who disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi on Thursday, while giving the score card of the agency in 2014, said among the items seized were assorted drugs, including cannabis savita, Exol-5, diazepam, raphynol, pentazoine and tramadol.
