Three expatriates working with ElMerit in Bayelsa State have been abducted by gunmen.

The expatriates were abducted during the week at Emakalakala in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

The abduction occurred barely a day after Governor Seriake Dickson boasted that Bayelsa was “the most secure state in the country.”

The nationalities of the victims could not be ascertained, but they were said to be working for a company called Elmerit.

Sources said the suspected abductors seized the expatriates and bundled them into a waiting boat and sped off.

The Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, Joint Military Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, Col. Mustapha Anka, confirmed the incident.

Anka declined to disclose the nationalities of the victims, saying details were sketchy.

He, however, said the task force and other security agencies were combing the area in order to rescue the victims.
