President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said his administration would continue to provide democratic leadership in the country.

Jonathan made the disclosure at the South-East Zonal Rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu.

He said that the world looked up to PDP to provide Nigerians with democratic leadership devoid of rancour.

The president commended the people of the zone for their “commitment, dedication, resilience and support for the party”, and assured that his administration would not disappoint them.

“I thank our party loyalists at all levels in the South-East. Today, we are here for a unity rally and it is very clear that the South-East is a PDP zone.

“We promise the South-Easterners and Nigerians that we will not disappoint them.

“Nigeria is a great country and for us to push forward, we need people of great minds to lead. PDP is the only party that can salvage this country, change the economy and the people”, he said.

The PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, said the party would continue to collaborate with the people of the zone to ensure true reconciliation of members of the party.

Mu’azu said that the party would also continue to improve, maintain and sustain the chances of leadership in the country.

“I urge you all to remain focused and committed to ensure the growth of our party in your zone”, Mu’azu said.

The President of the Senate, Sen. David Mark, pledged the support of members of the National Assembly in ensuring the continuity of Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda.

On his part, the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Chief Theodore Orji, commended the president for the infrastructural development of the zone.

Orji, however, appealed for more Federal Government presence in the zone, especially to complete the second Niger Bridge and the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

The PDP National Woman Leader, Chief Kema Chikwe, promised the support of women to take the present administration to greater heights.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that former and serving governors, National Assembly members, ministers, stakeholders, captains of industry, traditional rulers as well as religious leaders from the zone were present at the event. (NAN)
