A secondary school student in Osun has been arrested by police after reports that he assaulted a teacher in his school.
Olasupo Daudu, 18, was arraigned before a Magistrate court in Osogbo, the state capital, for allegedly beating up one Thompson Olamoyegun.
The accused is said to have conspired with some other assailants to attack his teacher and cause him injury on December 5 at about 1:30pm in Osogbo High School.
The Eagle Online reports:
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused assaulted his teacher, Thompson Olamoyegun, by beating him up and causing him an injury on his upper lip with a cutlass.
He said the accused and his accomplices also disrupted school activities and caused breached of the peace in a public place.
He said the offence committed by them contravened sections 516, 249(D) and 335 of the Criminal code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel, Remegius Ngwu, applied for his bail in liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Adebayo Lasisi, granted the accused bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Lasisi added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and also provide evidence of means of livelihood, two years tax clearance certificate and two passport photographs.
The case was adjourned to January 15, 2014 for hearing.
