Representatives of youths from the Niger Delta will soon meet with President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the feud between both leaders which took a frightening turn following the revelations of the controversial letter written by Mr. Obasanjo.
President of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Administrative Council (NDYLAC) and African Representative at the World Assembly of Youths (WAY), Marvin N. Yobana, who spoke with journalists in Abuja, said the meeting was necessary in the interest of the country.
Yobana, however, flayed the former president for purportedly writing a derogatory letter to Mr. Jonathan, saying the letter was a distraction to the Federal Government just as he said it was capable of inflaming ethnic wars across the country.
He also admonished Mr. Obasanjo to tow the path of reconciliation and statesmanship like the late Nelson Mandela instead of writing letters capable of over-heating the polity.
“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is highly respected by all Niger Delta youths but his recent activities that culminated into Tuesday’s letter were unfortunate and a distraction to the transformation agenda of President Jonathan”, Yobana said.
He added that “He (Obasanjo) should have emulate late Nelson Mandela and be human and humble to advice President Jonathan the way a father does to his son. We advise Chief Obasanjo to tow the path of honour and not to plunge the country into crisis”.
The youth leader, who affirmed that Mr. Obasanjo had every right to advise the president, however, noted that it should not be sensational and called on the former president to support the current administration to achieve its goals of generating employment and reforming the power sector among others.
