The trainees are leaders of 4,000 Operation Rainbow youths, a state-based security outfit, who were earlier trained on neighbourhood watch in 2011 and are now working in the 325 wards in the state.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday at the Leadership and Citizenship Training Centre, Shere Hill, Jos, where the first batch of the youths are receiving the four weeks training, the Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, AVM Bala Danbaba said the trained youths will be team leaders who will train others in their respective communities across the state.


He disclosed that the training which encompasses physical and intellectual training, is aimed at making trainees prepared to disarm terrorists and safeguard their local communities, adding that the state will also “set up security studies in the state university and secondary schools so that everyone in the state will be security conscious.”


Danbaba recalled that only 30 members of the neighbourhood watch were trained in Isreal to become instructors to the team leaders in Nigeria because of the cost and “we are training people to protect their communities and build people’s capacity to defend themselves and not to attack anybody.”


“The training will ensure ability to think, develop inner strength, toughen them to disarm attackers and create a society that cannot be intimidated,” Danbaba said.


The chief executive officer of International Security Academy (ISA) which is conducting the training, Mirza David, whose organization said their goal is to partner with Plateau State by using secret weapon which is security consciousness.


According to him, “Isreal’s secret weapon which has been and will always be in our entire society is the education, training and preparation of Isrealis, which have defeated and mitigated the violent crime and terrorism and have helped and will continue to help bring healthy economy and high living standards to our country’s population.”
