The Plateau State government has appealed to residents of the state to endure the inconveniences that may occur during the week-long funeral activities of the first civilian governor of the state, late Solomon Lar.
The plea was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Yiljap Abraham.
“The general public may experience some inconveniences due to the tight security arrangements, but this is unintended. We would rather appeal to citizens and visitors to bear it for our overall security, co-operate with security personnel and to start out for any of their destinations well ahead of time,” he said.
Mr. Abraham urged residents to be more vigilant during the funeral programs.
“We ask the people of Plateau to remain at their highest level of alert, avoid panic and rumour-mongering and pass information on security-related challenges to security personnel for prompt action”, he said.
Shedding more light on the security arrangements put in place to ensure a hitch free funeral, Mr. Abraham said all security apparatus in the state had been charged to ensure adequate security at all venues.
“For this reason, the whole security apparatus in Plateau has been mobilised, with Heads of security agencies under the Joint Security Committee drawing up and adopting an Operational Order”.
