The Federal Government, yesterday, said that the domination of expatiates in the construction industry in the country was due to lack of construction skills by Nigerians.
Speaking at the 2013 Induction Ceremony for Newly Registered Quantity Surveyors and Practicing Firms and 2nd Annual Professional Clinic on Value-For-Money and Contract Cost Auditing with the theme, ‘Professional Clinic on Value-For-Money and Contract Cost Auditing’, in Abuja, the Supervising Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Musa Sada, noted that the government would not apply sentiment in the award of construction contracts and endanger lives of its citizens, adding that this would not even ensure value for money spent.
“Using expatriates in construction industry instead of using Nigerians is a different issue entirely. It all goes with the skill, so we have to work on our own part. If we don’t have the skill, it is dangerous to submit to people without skill simply because they are Nigerians,” Sada said.
