rebel-govs The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday denied speculations that two of its recently defected governors – Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State will return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying their move to the opposition is ‘irreversible’.

The party was reacting to Sunday night’s meeting at the presidential villa Abuja between President Goodluck Jonathan and PDP governors; which Wamakko and Kwankwaso attended.

The party gave this assurance in a statement by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Lagos on Monday.

According to the statement, the governors were at the Presidential Villa at the invitation of Jonathan, who is President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; therefore, there was no reason why any governor would not honour his invitation.

The statement read in part, “There is therefore nothing extraordinary about the correct decision of the two Governors to meet with the President, even as we note that the decision by some PDP governors to attend the meeting is purely within their prerogative.

“The decision by the governors to leave the PDP is irreversible, in spite of the meeting. Therefore, Governors Wamakko and Kwankwaso remain APC Governors”.
