The South-east zone of the Civil Liberties Organisation, (CLO), Friday, raised alarm over what it described as the unlawful torture and execution of four crime suspects in police custody in Enugu, and therefore demanded for the immediate intervention of the federal government to unmask those behind the crime.
In a petition to the Police Affairs Minister, Caleb Olubolade signed by its Zonal Director, Olu Omotayo and copied to Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, the human rights group listed the four suspects as Dennis Nwode, Obinna Nwode, Goodluck Echezona Igwenagu and Onyeka Nnaji.
In a swift reaction, the police in Enugu has dismissed the allegation as false and intended to deceive the general public.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP. Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed that the suspects are still alive and would soon be taken to court after investigation is concluded by the police.
The CLO, however insisted in its petition which was made available to newsmen in Enugu that the suspects were summarily executed on Tuesday November 26th 2013, at the Anti-Kidnapping Base, Enugu.
