A Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State on Monday ordered that Godwin Success, 33, of Angwan Mission, Masaka, be remanded in prison for allegedly raping two sisters.

The presiding judge, Vincent Gwahemba, ordered that the accused be remanded till August 5, when hearing in the case will begin.

Mr. Gwahemba said the court was using its powers under Section 183 of the Criminal Procedure Code to remand the accused to enable the police to conclude its investigations.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Joseph Ahwa, told the court that on January 5 at Masaka, Nasarawa State, the accused called the victims aged 6 and 8 and forcefully had carnal knowledge of them.

The prosecutor said the victims sustained injuries in the process of the rape, and that the offence was punishable under Section 358 of the Penal Code.

The punishment for rape under the section is life imprisonment.

Mr. Ahwa told the court that the offence was not bailable and that the victims were currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Keffi in Nasarawa State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
