According to BBC, the former England captain will effectively be retiring at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old midfielder will ending a colorful professional career that saw him play for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, Los Angeles Galaxy, and the England national team.

He recently won the French Ligue 1 championship with Paris Saint-Germain, becoming the first English player to win League titles in four countries.

"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," he said, in comments reported by the BBC.

Beckham earned 115 caps for England, a record for an outfield player, and won the Champions League, six Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Manchester United.

Just recently, Beckham landed on the top spot of Sports Illustrated's annual list of highest-paid athletes worldwide, The International 20, for earning more than $48 million.
