The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has criticized Governor Yahaya Bello’s approach to governance, accusing him of moving the state on the path of retrogression, instead of sustainable development.
The publicity secretary of PDP in the state, Bode Ogunmola, who addressed a news conference yesterday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, said Bello’s 30 days in office had been characterized by “knee jerk approach to governance characterized by poor policy formulations, reversals and somersaults”.
Mr. Ogunmola said the “arbitrary blockage” of a section of the Government House road in Lokoja, and converting same to a single lane was a retrogressive action, which he said had subjected many road users to untold hardships.
The Kogi PDP spokesperson also condemned the recent demolition of roundabouts in Lokoja by the governor, whom he said was reportedly acting on advice of some ‘marabouts’.
“Bello should focus on providing purposeful leadership and leave voodoism to occultic practitioners”, he said.
According to Ogunmola, no state can move forward if its leaders are held back by “ancient, unscientific and diabolical practices”.
He also faulted Gov. Bello over the reversals of all appointments and promotions carried out by his predecessor from January 2015, as well as the directives that some top civil servants should proceed on compulsory leave.
In a swift reaction, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Abdulmalik Abdulkarim, said what the PDP described as ‘policy somersault’ should be considered an act of magnanimity on the part of Bello.
According to him, the barricades in front of the Government House would be removed as soon as ongoing renovation works are completed.
On the issue of the demolition of roundabouts in Lokoja, Abdulkarim said Governor Bello wants to make them more fashionable and attractive.
