The tallest statue of Jesus in Africa  was unveiled in Nigeria at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the South eastern village of Abajah  on January 1, 2016. In acknowledging this iconic feat INFORMATION NIGERIA has put together 7 facts you should know about the statue…

– It stands at 28 feet tall, weighing 40 tons.

– The statue which was built by a Chinese company and carved in white marble, depicts Jesus stretching out his arms in a welcoming pose.

– The statue dubbed “Jesus de Greatest”,  took about three years to construct.

– It was donated by a 43-year-old business man called Chief Obinna Onuoha, the Managing Director of Premier Petroleum Ltd.

– The the unveiling of the statue was used to mark the wedding golden jubilee ceremony of the parents of Obinna, Chief Geoffrey, and Lolo Justina Onuoha.

– The statue made of marble is bigger than the 20 metres (66 foot) Ramesses ii Abusimbel statue in Egypt.

– The cost of the nine-metre tall statue was not revealed by the donor.
