The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Ibeto, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party and other parties in the state against scuttling the electoral process, following the successful conclusion of the presidential and National Assembly elections.
The deputy governor said this in Minna, the state capital, on Thursday, while thanking supporters of the party for voting in their numbers for the party and ensuring the emergence of the Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), as the President-elect.
He said, “We call on all political parties, contesting the governorship/state assembly elections in Niger State, especially the PDP, to play by the rules of the game to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election come April 11, 2015.
“Any desperate attempt by any party to scuttle the electoral process will be resisted by the collective will of all Nigerlites, as such acts will be detrimental to peace and stability in our dear state.”
The APC recorded a resounding victory in Niger State with its candidates defeating the state governor, Babangida Aliyu, and Senator Zainab Kure of the PDP in the senatorial race, while Buhari won the state by a landslide.
Ibeto, who defected from the PDP in January and is the leader of the party in the state, explained that by voting the APC, the people of Niger State had expressed their desire to be in the fold of progressive politics in Nigeria.
