The Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of plotting to embarrass the Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The party made this known in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, which was made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti.

The party said the APC leaders met at the residence of one of its national leaders in Lagos, where the plan was hatched.

But the Director of Publicity and Media of the APC in Ekiti, Mr. Segun Dipe, who refuted the allegation said the party did not have control over an agency of the Federal Government.

He said, “It is our concern that Ekiti must not be ruled by illiterates in the first instance. But how do we do that because we don’t have control over EFCC.

Why can’t they embarrass Fayemi? It is because Fayemi has walked clean.

“How can APC work on EFCC? We don’t have power at the centre and EFCC reports to the President.

“In the short run, we can say Fayose is afraid of his own shadow. We have more important things to do than running after Fayose. His past is haunting him. Let the people of Ekti State begin to enjoy the scene as it lasts.”

Oluwawole stated further that the APC leadership at the meeting made frantic efforts to consider the issue of ‘photochromic rigging’ as postulated by one of the national officers of APC but for lack of credibility and legal viability the idea was dropped.

He said that it was at this stage that a source in the meeting said one of the leaders suggested that Fayose could be embarrassed by compromising the EFCC to file fresh charges against Fayose knowing that the governor-elect’s counsels had rubbished the EFCC charges in the court.
