Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, Thursday, donated N14 million to seven widows of police officers who were killed lost their lives in the line of duty in the state.
He also donated N500, 000 each to the children of the deceased to assist in their educational pursuit.
Oshiomhole made the donation at a meeting with senior police officers and families of deceased officers in Benin.
The governor noted that officers who died in such manner should be adequately taken care of by the government and society for paying the supreme sacrifice to the nation. The same gesture, according to him, should be extended to serving officers so that they will be inspired to do more.
Oshiomhole therefore promised the police that the state government would provide more vehicles to enhance their patrol activities, but urged them to improve on their maintenance culture.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Folusho Adebanjo, in his remarks, commended officers and men of the command for reducing crime in the state.
