Chidi Llyod, the Leader of Rivers House of Assembly was today brought before Justice L. L Nyordee of the Port-Harcourt high court.

Lloyd is facing a six- count charge of conspiracy to murder and assault, attempted murder and malicious damage arising from the fracas in the House of Assembly on 9 July.

He was brought amidst a very tight security mounted by the anti-riot policemen drawn from the Rivers State Police Command.

The law maker was unable to walk on his own but was aided by two security men into the court.

His arraignment provoked a heated argument between Worgu Boms, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Chika N.Dewingwe, SAN, representing the Nigeria Police. Dewingwe argued that under the the Nigerian Constitution, the police have the power to prosecute the lawmaker since the case is a criminal case.

Dewinigwe argued that the state Attorney-General of a state cannot take over the case when the accused has not taken a plea whether guilty or not. The case has been adjourned till August 6 for hearing.

Reacting to the state of health of Lloyd, the Deputy Speaker,Leyii Kwanee said the inability of Lloyd to walk on his feet was a confirmation of the alarm he had earlier raised that Lloyd was being tortured to extract information from him.
