Emmanuel-Akabueze-EFCCThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday secured the conviction of one Emmanuel Akabueze (also known as “Temple Nneameka Obiora”), who was prosecuted on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and forgery before Justice Fatu Riman of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kano, Kano State.
Mr. Akabueze, while parading as Nneameka Obiora, an accountant in construction company, Mother Cat, in connivance with one Tony Momoh, who introduced himself as an old acquaintance working with PHCN to the complainant, sometime in April, 2012, told him (complainant) of his desire to contract the purchase and supply of a Solar Model ISA for one of his foreign business partners.
A statement by the EFCC head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said along the line, the convict and his accomplice collected the sum of N410,000.00 (four hundred and ten thousand naira) from the victim to perfect “the deal”, and thereafter went underground.
Efforts by the victim to either have them deliver on their promise or recover his money were unsuccessful.
After diligent prosecution, Justice Riman found Akabueze guilty and sentenced him to three years imprisonment on each count. The sentence is to run concurrently.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay back the money to the victim as restitution, the statement by Uwujaren added.

Bukola-SarakiSenate President Bukola Saraki on Friday stormed the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is facing charges of alleged false asset declaration and corruption.
Saraki, who arrived the court room of the CCT at about 10:00am accompanied by other senators, immediately went to greet members of his legal team led by former Justice Minister, Kanu Agabi (SAN).
It would be recalled that the Senate president had attempted to scuttle his trial by challenging the powers of the tribunal but the Supreme Court ruled that not only did the Justice Umar Danladi-led tribunal have the powers to try him, it was properly constituted to hear the case against Mr. Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State.
On resumption of the trial, Mr. Agabi, said there were 80 lawyers on his team, saying his client would surely emerge winner in the event of a voting contest.
“We are 80 of us on this side, my lord”, he said. “At some point let the matter be put to vote”.
He then started announcing the names of the other lawyers with him
As at the time of filing in this report, proceedings have commenced as the Tribunal Clerk calls out the case.

On this day in 2013, forty one (41) people died in a suicide car bombing that struck a bus station in Kano. The suicide attack was committed against Christian civilians at the Kano Bus station, all of whom were boarding the buses to go to the mostly Christian south.

The explosion came hours after another attack blamed on Boko Haram killed a teacher and injured three students in Maiduguri. The Volkswagen Golf packed with explosives and driven by three suicide bombers sped to five buses, which were being boarded by civilians, mostly Christians, to east and south Nigeria. The car hit one of the buses and exploded. After the explosion, people started evacuating from the remaining buses. A fire spread to the four remaining buses, many of which still had passengers in them.

Sources like the Vanguard claim the attack killed up to 60 people. BBC claims it was 22 and according to Reuters, the number is 25. Though the target of the attacks is not disputed, the buses were carrying mostly Christians, the main target of Boko Haram.

An Instagram user spotted this little boy and his mother on his way to work two days ago in Lagos state, begging for finacial aid and decided to post it online – to get more people to help finacially. Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw who was one of the people tagged in the post, saw it and took interest . . . now, she’s calling for all the help in the world to save him!
Continue to see more….

On my way to work, I saw this boy being carried by his Mother and asking alms around the bridge descent to Muson centre, Onikan. I can’t but imagine the magnitude of pain this child would be going through.

On speaking with the mother, she was advised to take him to the hospital rather than multiplying the sufferings of the boy by bundling him around traffic. She complained of lack of enough funds to take him to the hospital for treatment.

I gave her my widows mite and got her contact before releasing her to go.

I know the power of social media, how that total strangers have been assisted in the past and I am convinced that spirited individuals would rise to the occasion.

Please help rebroadcast and raise the necessary support until this boy gets the needed help from the appropriate authorities.

The Mothers name is Mary and her phone number is 08100541485. You may not need to reach me further as this is the only information I could muster before I left them. Please call her to speak to her.

(Her line is currently switched off due to low battery).

Let’s help this suffering boy and give him a reason to smile again!!!!

A six-year-old schoolgirl, Oluwajuwon Akinsanya, has been abducted by unidentified persons at the Ojo Military Cantonment, Lagos.

The primary one pupil of Maryam Bliss International School, Ojo, was said to be sleeping in the room with her parents in Block II, Flat 5, Engineer Quarters, when she was whisked away by the abductors.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the men also stole the phone, money and recharge cards (vouchers) of the victim’s parents. Her mother, Yetunde, told our correspondent that the family had yet to be contacted by the abductors since the incident happened in January.

She stated that she had visited more than 200 places seeking help, adding that she was sexually harassed in one of the religious houses she visited.

Yetunde said,
“On January 20, 2016, around 4.30am, while we were asleep, I suddenly heard a loud noise and I woke up.
“I checked the floor where my daughter normally slept, but I didn’t see her. Her younger brother, Enoch, was on the bed with my husband and I. I thought she went to the toilet to urinate.
“However, when I checked the place, I didn’t find her. It was when I got to the kitchen and met the door opened that I knew intruders had come in. They came in from the kitchen.“They took my bag and removed all the money there. They also emptied my purse where I kept the recharge cards I sold to people. My husband’s phone was equally taken away.”

She said she reported the matter to the Ojo Barracks Military Police and the victim’s father was arrested. She said the military authorities said her husband was the first suspect. He was, however, later released and three other suspects arrested.

The suspects – Mercy Akere, Ayodeji Akinsanya and Segun Akinsanya –were alleged to have been accused by Yetunde of issuing threats against her family.

Our correspondent gathered that the military later released the suspects, saying there was no evidence against them.Yetunde, a trader, said a member of her husband’s family took her to an orthodox church for help. She alleged that the pastor after giving her a fake prophecy of her daughter’s whereabouts, sexually harassed her.
“I complained to my in-law who took me to his church, and he called the pastor in my presence to challenge him.
“The pastor told him on the telephone that he only used a candle to rub my br**sts because that was what my child sucked; and my private parts, because that was where she came out from. He said he did it so that the deliverance would be quicker,” she said.
Oluwajuwon’s mother, who expressed dissatisfaction at the way the military were handling the case, said she asked for a transfer to a civilian police station, but the Officer-in-Charge, Major Obot, refused.

When contacted, Major Obot declined comment, saying he was not authorised to speak with PUNCH Metro.

“I am not the right person to talk about the case. The child’s father is a military officer and the case is being handled by the military because it happened in the barracks,” he said.
The victim’s father, Sunday, a sergeant, said he did not suspect his relatives or girlfriend, adding that he was also not in support of the matter being transferred from the military.
He said, “My wife is only suspecting my relatives and girlfriend because before this incident happened, we had a misunderstanding.
“I am a military officer and I can tell you that investigations are ongoing. I suspect those who surround my wife, but I know soon, God will expose those behind this.”

Sunday’s brother, Segun, who was among those initially arrested, denied knowing anything about the abduction of the child. He said he had not been in talking terms with Yetunde prior to the incident, adding she wanted to get back at him with the incident.

A counsel in the Femi Falana Chamber, Mrs. Olakitan Boluagbaje, said the chamber was preparing a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, for the case to be transferred from the military police.

She said, “I can’t imagine that such a thing could happen in a military barracks. And the way the military officers are handling the matter is pathetic.
“The main actors in this case are civilians, and it is only reasonable that the case is transferred to the police. We will be writing the CP to request the transfer of the case to him.”

There was an outrage among policemen at the Lagos State Police Command recently, after a police sergeant ran into the command, moments after robbing a lady of her handbag. The sergeant, Oluseyi (surname withheld), was attached to ‘A Department’ at the state Police Command.

According to sources, Oluseyi was a serial thief, who allegedly used to target females standing along the road. Whenever he robs ladies of their handbags and other valuables, he would drive off in his white Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), leaving them screaming and crying. He would go for another victim or would drive straight to command, where his office was located.

Once he drives into the police command headquarters, he would change his clothes and put on his uniform.

However, nemesis caught up with him after one of his victims traced him to the command. Although the lady was confused when she was finally presented with Oluseyi because he had changed his clothes, she, however, was sure of his car type and colour.

She also recollected three numbers in his number plate. When Oluseyi’s car was searched by policemen who were already getting angry with the lady’s supposed wild allegations, several female handbags, shoes, phones and panties were discovered.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, had also been hearing about the serial thief, preying on ladies, he, however, never bargained it would be one of his men.

Owoseni was so angry with the sergeant that he ordered his arrest. Oluseyi faced orderly room trial and was dismissed.

A police source said: “Every morning, the sergeant would drive his SUV around. He mostly frequents Ikeja GRA, where he hunts for women. Whenever he sees a lone female, waiting for transportation, he would stop and ask her where she was going.

Once she tells him, he would claim he was going the same way. After driving for a while, he would do something that would make his car to start jerking. He would stop, get down and pretend to check the car’s engine. “He would go back to the driver’s seat and ask the lady to step down. He would beg her to check if the car’s headlights were working. Immediately the lady steps down, he would drive away, taking along her handbag and other valuables left on her seat.” Ironically, whenever these incidents occur, most of the victims would start trekking and begging for money in order to get home. Many of them used to find themselves at the Police Officers’ Mess in GRA. There they narrated their experiences to policemen who were on duty at the gate.

The stories got to Owoseni and his Personal Assistant (PA).

These policemen have gotten used to hearing such stories, but they didn’t know one of them was committing the crimes. During days, weeks and months that the policemen heard these complaints, it dawned on them that the descriptions of the car and the thief ’s modus operandi were the same as recounted by the women.

On the day that Oluseyi played the same game on his last victim, the lady, who was returning from a night club, also started trekking, looking for means to go home. She found herself at the Police Officers’ Mess.

Like other victims, she narrated her experience. Unlike other women, the lady was able to memorise three numbers of the number plate.

Trying to assist in his little way for her to get home, Owoseni’s PA gave her some money. Moments after she got to PWD area, not too far from Lagos Command Headquarters, she sighted the white SUV. She pursued and started hitting the windscreen for Oluseyi to stop, but the sergeant recognised her and knocked her down with his car. He then zoomed off. The police source said:

“She quickly flagged down a tricycle and told him to go after the vehicle. When she saw Oluseyi at PWD, he was already with another lady inside his car. They chased the jeep around, until they saw it again. This time, it was driving inside the police headquarters. She got down from the tricycle and attempted to enter the command.

Policemen on sentry duties refused to allow her inside. She told them that a man in a white SUV, who robbed her that morning, just drove into the command. They didn’t believe her story.” The lady went back to Owoseni’s PA at Police Officers’ Mess, to tell him that she sighted the driver who robbed her.

With the PA in tow, the lady entered the command and easily identified the white SUV because she had memorised three of the numbers. “When they brought Oluseyi, she was confused because he had already changed his clothes. She said the man wore red sweater. Oluseyi had put on his police uniform. Oluseyi was angry and told her that she was embarrassing him. The CP’s PA told him to shut up. The car was searched and a red sweater discovered.

The sweater was what he wore when he picked the lady,” said the police source.

Further search of the vehicles, yielded several women handbags, panties and phones. She picked her phones from among the lot. She said the phone belonged to her sister.

The first number on the call log was dialled and her sister picked it. However, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmus, denied the report.

“The woman quickly raised alarm which attracted other passersby who apprehended and rough handled him before he was eventually arrested by the police,” the source added.

This massive, serpentine beast which is over 17ft doesn’t only come from the family of the world’s largest snakes. It is the largest ever captured. The capture of the Anaconda is part of a BBC documentary; Tribes, Predators and Me presented by Gordon Buchanan who lived alongside an indigenous Ecuadorian tribe, the Waorani, in the Amazon.

In the show, Buchanan joins a tribal family to hunt an Anaconda, the Amazon’s most dangerous predator, the animal is a proven man-eater but the locals believe its capture and release is not only a sign of bravery but see the feat as a source of immense spiritual power.

There is also a scientific reason for the capture as the Waorani are losing their land to oil exploration – with scientists testing anacondas for the effects of oil pollution.

Buchanan lives alongside the indigenous people for two weeks learning their ways and how they have adapted to live alongside some of the world’s most dangerous animals including Jaguars.
