It’s been a nightmare for the little boy who had his eyes plucked out by ritualists in Zaria. His heartbroken father,Usman Isa told Daily Trust after doctors at the Ahmadu Bello University performed an operation on the little boy, they revealed he will not see again, except a miracle happens. He said in tears:

“The Kaduna hospital has referred us back to ABUTH. Doctors have conducted surgery yesterday. From what they told us, the perpetrators have removed everything that has to do with the eyes, which would make fixing them difficult. However, doctors said that they would review the operation to see the outcome, hoping they can fix artificial ones.” He said the doctors said the artificial eyes would be fixed just to fill the holes, but not for the young boy to see. “Except if Allah performs a miracle,”

Meanwhile the grandmother of little Usman, Malama Hadiza Usman, narrated how she got to know that her grandson’s eyes had been removed by ritualists while he was on his way to an evening Islamiyya class.

In tears, Malama Hadiza told Daily Trust that she would never forget the incident for the rest of her life.

“I’d given him N5 to buy sweets on his way, on Sunday, January 24. He left the house with his brother Umar, but on their way they were intercepted by yet-to-be identified men who took him to an uncompleted building and gouged his eyes out.” At the hospital, little Abubakar was telling those around him to open his eyes to enable him see his mother and grandmother. “Open my eyes, I want to see Mama. Mama, where are you? Where’s Grandma?” he kept wailing.

Talk show host, Funmi Iyanda took to her Instagram page recently to share these side by side photos of her bare skin to put paid to various speculations surrounding her lighter complexion. She wrote;

“The top is what happens to my skin in fall, winter and spring. The bottom is what it is in summer or when l’m home in my lovely hot country. There are no filters. Pictures taken six weeks apart. Top in London in November, bottom in Lagos in January. I do not like the unhealthy pasty lighter one much the golden brown one being much yummier, fortunately it is mostly bundled up in warm clothing until summer or when l come home. I spectacularly hate the snide insinuations and speculations l get on account of this from those who hate the skin they are in. This is my skin, it changes with the weather as nature designs. In an Op-Ed for Time, Amber Rose poured out her heart like never seen before. She wrote on having to endure the judgement of others and constantly explaining herself. She revealed she has gotten over caring what people think and has chosen instead to just be herself. She wrote the piece a day after her tweet fight with Kanye. Read below…

“Ever since high school, I’ve been called a slut. All the boys were attracted to me—that wasn’t my fault! Then, when I started getting famous, the shaming got even worse.

All these messed up stories came out about me, and I was like, “That’s not true! I’m not that kind of girl!” But even things I had done—things a man would never be judged for—got me lots of hate.
After my ex-husband Wiz Khalifa and I got a divorce, I’d go out for a date at a restaurant like any normal single human and people would say, “Man, she’s such a ho. She’s out at restaurants with guys.” Then they would see my ex-husband with a bunch of women. They would say, “He’s the man! That’s so cool.” So when I went on a date, I’m a whore, and when he’s piling girls in a car, he’s the man? There’s something wrong here.
It wasn’t just men saying these types of things. There were a lot of women saying hateful things to me. I was getting torn down constantly. But in the past year, I’ve just started not caring.
People would actually say things like, “Who would ever love you? You were a stripper. Why are you in relationships?” And I used to feel like I had to explain that maybe it was because I’m a good person.
But I realized that I can’t make everyone believe. And I can’t talk to everyone and tell them who I really am. They’re still going to have their own opinions. If you know me, you love me. If you don’t know me, you might love me, but you might not—and that’s cool. And you know what? Now I sleep like a baby at night.
It wasn’t even that hard to stop caring what other people thought. I wasn’t married, and I didn’t have a boyfriend so I didn’t have to care about anyone else’s feelings or protect anyone’s heart. I thought, “This is my life. This is about me. If you don’t like it, I don’t care. I’m going to do anything and everything I want with my own life.”
What I’ve realized is that, when you care too much, you’re not living at your full potential. When you really stop caring about what people say, that’s when you really start living. It’s such an amazing feeling. It’s about loving who you are, owning who you are and knowing that it’s O.K. to live your life how you want to live it. We’re all human, which means we’re not all perfect. It’s so cool to think that I might help women think about who they want to be and then encourage them to be that person with no remorse. I want to help women just be happy in their own skin.

So please: Before you judge someone—especially another woman—put yourself in her shoes and also look at your past. That’s what a lot of women fail to do. They’re so quick to call another girl names, but it’s like: You know what? There may have been a time where you looked back and said, “I probably shouldn’t have done that.” Does that make you a ho? No, it makes you a human.”

A Chicago police officer plans to sue the family of a black teenager he shot and killed, claiming emotional distress, United States media reported Friday.

The teen’s neighbour – a mother of five – was caught in the crossfire after answering the door and was also killed by police in the December 26 incident.

The shooting came as the US city was reeling from a series of incidents in which police were accused of being too ready to pull the trigger on their service weapons.

City officials apologised for the death of Bettie Davis, 55, but have said Quintonio LeGrier’s shooting was justified.

Chicago-Police

The family of LeGrier, 19, has repeatedly said there was no reason why police should have opened fire when responding to a domestic disturbance at their home.

Police said LeGrier was brandishing a baseball bat and threatened the responding officer.

His family insists there was no need to respond to the mentally disturbed teen with deadly force when all they were doing was asking for help.

Officer Robert Rialmo plans to file a civil suit against LeGrier’s estate, citing emotional distress and assault, his lawyer Joe Brodsky told WGN-TV.

Brodsky did not immediately return a request for comment.

Police tactics and racism have been the subject of a national debate since protests erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, in mid-2014 over the shooting dead of a black teenager, 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The US Justice Department is investigating how Chicago police use force after the death of another black teenager, Laquan McDonald, who was shot 16 times as he was walking away from officers.

The National Youth Service Corps has said that henceforth, participation in the national service and attendance of Law School at the same time “would not be acceptable”.

Director-General-of-the-National-Youth-Service-Corps-Brig.-Gen.-Johnson-Olawumi

A statement by the spokesperson of the NYSC, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, on Friday said this was part of the resolutions made at 2016 annual management conference of the organisation, which took place in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Participants also agreed that the policy on posting of the corps members to places of primary assignment would be reviewed to meet contemporary needs.

Aderibigbe said the conference stated that the NYSC Act provided for uninterrupted service year, and “advised prospective corps members to choose which one to defer between national service and Law School attendance instead of attempting to combine both.”

She said, “Parents of prospective corps members have also been advised by the confab to allow their graduate children take decisions as adults and avoid discouraging them from accepting postings to any location in the country.

“Management also noted the return of normalcy in some states whose orientation camps were closed due to insecurity, and expressed readiness to make phased reopening of the camps after due consultations with security agencies and governments of the affected states.”

The conference further resolved to deepen engagements with key stakeholders, including the security and intelligence community and traditional rulers on matters of security and general well-being of corps members.
