March 2013

A 33-year-old Senegalese woman, Miss Kamara Oumou was on Wednesday apprehended with 680 grammes of heroin and cocaine carefully hidden in her private parts at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, while attempting to board an Arik Air flight to Dakar.
She was nabbed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The suspect with Senegal international passport number 400680371 claimed she had to smuggle the drugs due to the love she had for her Nigerian boyfriend.
She was arrested during the screening of passengers at the airport.
Commenting on Miss Oumou’s arrest, NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar said that the suspect used industrial tape to stick three parcels of cocaine, weighing 515 grammes on her waist while 6 wraps of heroin weighing 165 grammes were inserted in her private parts.
He said, “it was a carefully concealed method but not intelligent enough to escape our detection.”
Mr Umar said they were shocked beyond imagination over Miss Oumou’s revelation of smuggling the drugs for love she had for her Nigerian
boyfriend whom she identified as Hakeem.
According to him, “preliminary investigation revealed that they both met in Dakar where Hakeem is believed to have lived for 11 years. Their
relationship lasted only six months before Hakeem left Dakar in December 2012. Hakeem invited Kamara to Lagos from Dakar and lodged her in a hotel where they both spent a week together.
“Within this period, he made necessary arrangement for Kamara to go back with the drugs.”
Narrating her ordeals, Kamara said that it was her first time of seeing drugs.
“I have had a good relationship with Hakeem until my arrest. The day he brought the drugs to the hotel room was my first time ever of seeing drugs.
“He called the drugs ‘products’ and that his business partners are unfaithful and he wants me to take the products to Dakar because he had trust in me.
“Hakeem taught me how to pack the drugs and also took care of my travel arrangements. He said that he lives in the East, but he took good care of me in a hotel in Lagos. We were to travel together to Dakar but he suddenly changed the arrangement. Hakeem travelled to Dakar a day before my trip” Kamara stated.
“How can I ask my boyfriend to pay me? I smuggled the drugs for the love I have for my Nigerian boyfriend” Kamara affirmed.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade has urged members of the public to to be weary of the tricks employed by drug traffickers.
“It is wrong to commit crimes. No reason is strong enough to get engaged in drug trafficking. Drug barons may claim to be in love with unsuspecting couriers. They may even present themselves as philanthropists, members of the public are advised to shun drug trafficking” Giade said.

The age long boundary dispute between Echonwa and Odeke people of Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State and Okpeze Aguleri-Otu communities in Anambra East Local Government has taken a dangerous dimension as about three Anambra indigenes have been reported missing over the dispute.

The missing persons were allegedly kidnapped in Aguleri-Otu, Anambra East Local Government during a bloody clash between the two warring communities.

There are also reports that about 200 houses were burnt and property worth several millions of naira destroyed.

A source alleged that the Echonwa and Odeke people invaded the Okpali and Okpeze Aguleri-Otu communities during which the clash ensued.

Confirming the incident, the transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government, Comrade Chiedu Obidigwe described the attack as unprovoked and an invasion on his people as they were not ready for war.
He accused the Kogi State government and Ibaji Local Government of fuelling the war, adding thus:

"I am personally accusing the Kogi State government and chairman of Ibaji Local Government of inciting their people against our people, as they have not done anything tangible to contain the excesses of their people.

"The chairman of Ibaji Local Government has done nothing to stop his people from invading us, but I have day in, day out reached out to our people not to take up arms to avoid outright war with the people of Ibaji and Kogi at large.
"We are not interested in fighting the Echonwa and Odeke from Kogi State.

They have invaded us and as I speak to you, our people have been invaded at Okpali Aguleri-Otu, and Okpeze Aguleri by Kogi people. They are burning houses and chasing our people away from their ancestral homes and land in unprovoked attacks.

"Two of our people got bullet wounds; two motorcycles were burnt with property worth several millions of naira. As at now, nobody was killed and two people were arrested and taken to the police.

"We are looking for two persons from our community and police are aware of that, and the only Army and police around the place are from Anambra State.

We have not seen or heard that any Army or police from Kogi State visited there", he alleged.

This is because of  the prolonged treatment he has been receiving since March, 2011 as a result of  serious injury he sustained during a scuffle with  his neighbours identified as Augustine Eleyi, 28, and  Emeka Eleyi, 32, from Ohozara in Mgbo Ebonyi State.
Sunday, the only son of his parents from Ohafia in AbiaState, had his scrotum slashed off during a fight with two of his neighbours.
Narrating the circumstances that led to the problem to Crime Guard at their Makoko residence, the father of the victim, Onyike Okpara,65, stated;  "I have been living in this compound since 1970.   I had five children but only two are alive; that is Sunday and his younger sister who works at LagosIsland.
I occupy two rooms in the building, one room which I sleep in, and the other at the back of the building, where my children sleep. When ever my daughter comes home from work, she buys and shares biscuits, sweets and gala to our neighbour's children.  So, the children always look forward to her returning from work.
More so, when  ever she is sharing these goodies to the children, two of our neighbours, Augustine Eleyi and his elder brother, Emeka Eleyi (who normally sits on the chair I kept in front of my children's room at the boys quarters to smoke Indian hemp), would always walk up to them, grab what ever is within their grasp, and flee. Instead of them to ask, they would grab what ever they can and run away. My daughter complained about this to me, and I had called and cautioned them to desist from such act, but they would not listen.
On the evening of March 1st, 2011,  she was seated at the boys' quarters with some children  sharing some gala when Augustine Eleyi, came and as usual, grabbed one gala and ran away.
My daughter pursued him and in the process, N200 fell from his pocket.   She picked it up and said it would serve as a payment for all the gala and biscuits he has been snatching from them.
Later on, on a second thought, she  decided to give him back the money as she thought it was not worth it.
Having searched around for him, and not knowing of his whereabouts, she decided to give him the money the next day.
On the evening of that day which was the 2nd of March, 2011, after she got back from work, she took the money to him at the boys quarters, but he said he does not want it anymore. At that point, an argument ensued between them, during which his younger brother, Emeka Eleyi collected the money from my daughter.
As the argument continued, my son Sunday who was in the room preparing for the next day's lecture, told his sister to let the matter be, and go to our main room and sleep, while he asked Augustine and Emeka to leave the place because they were disturbing him with their noise.
Augustine asked him if the place looked like his school hostel, that if he wants to read, he should pack his books and go to his school hostel. As the argument raged, he slapped my son, who grabbed him on his shirt asking 'what have I done to you'?, Emeka rushed to them pretending as if we was going for peace only for him to grab my son's two hands, while Augustine rushed and fetched a sharp object, and used it to slash my son's scrotum.
I feel he actually wanted to cut off his male organ, but missed. My son's cry of agony attracted the attention of passersby, because part of the compound is a thoroughfare; it was these passersby that ran to inform us at the other side of the building.
I ran to the place and met my son in a pool of his blood. On sighting us, the culprits bolted. I wanted to run after them but I was weakened by the sight of my son lying in pains, in the pool of his blood.
I also thought, if I go after them at that point, what would be the fate of my son when I get back, hence I opted to stay back, with the help of the other neighbours and some of our church members, my son was rushed to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba,  from where we obtained a note to take him to the hospital. At that time, the GeneralHospital was on strike, we brought my son back to Adekunle Police Station, and they asked us to find a private hospital and take him there.
So, we took him to a private hospital at Iwaya. Augustine and Emeka were later apprehended by neighbours who went after them, and handed over to the police."
Crime Guard learnt that the case has been at the Yaba Magistrate's Court since 2011.  Onyike Okpara  further told our reporter that for  one month his son was at the hospital in Iwaya, the Eleyi family only contributed N15,000 for the medical bills. He stated, "after the initial N15,000 installment  they brought when Sunday was taken to the hospital, I have not heard from them.
Three times, my pastor and family called them to seek out ways to settle the matter amicably; when they come, they will be dribbling us, they will promise to contribute to the medical bills but we wont hear from them after that. I have so far spent almost N200,000, I have the medical bill to prove that".
He also alleged that some members of the Eleyi family have threatened him to accept their term of payment, which is to pay N40,000, as their contribution; and withdraw the case from court.  He stated, "On November 18, 2012 at about 9:30pm, they sent six men, out of which I recognized three, they came asking me to sign a document, I could not properly read through because of my poor sight, at that time of the night.
One of them practically told me that " so many people die in Lagos every day, and their corpses are never discovered; I would want your corpse to be found". What he meant by that, I do not know. I don't feel safe anymore.
First, they tried to take my son away, now they are threatening me to accept a condition I don't think any of them would accept if it were their son that was involved."
Counsel to the defendant, Worer Obuagbaka, on his part told Crime Guard that what happened between the defendant and the complainant was unfortunate.
According to him, they have been living peacefully together for some years, what we are trying to do is to see if we can settle the case amicably." He said the defendants have been granted bail but are still in police custody because they have not been able to perfect their bail.

The inhabitants of Buea Town are still to recover from the shock and consternation following the heinous killing of Pa Daniel Mbonde by his fourth son.
Friday, 15 March marked the untimely exit of Pa Daniel Mbonde, a retired Prison Warder beheaded in his farm by his own son whose name Cameroon Tribune got as Gabriel Mbonde alias “Daddy Black”.
Gabriel, 25, is presently languishing at the Buea Central Police station cell while the headless body of the father by press time (3pm Saturday) was brought to the family compound around the ‘Pala Pala field’ neighbourhood by the police for burial.
As the story goes, Pa Mbonde went to his farm situated around HUT One on the slopes of Mount Fako, Friday morning with one of his sons (Ndumbe). By 4pm, the two decided to go back home and each carried a long of wood. The young Ndumbe narrated that his father asked him to go ahead since he could not walk faster to the pace of the young man.
Somewhere along the road, he went on, he met with his elder brother (the assassin) and asked him where he was going by that time of the day but “Daddy Black” responded that he too was going to fetch his own firewood. Ndumbe said he questioned the brother how he was going to cut firewood without a machete but he said he was going to collect the machete from the father.
When by 6pm Pa Mbonde had not return, eyebrows were raised on what might have happened to him. Meanwhile, the said “Daddy Black” returned with a bag containing the head of his father. He is said to have moved with the said black bag around the neigbourhood claiming that his money is on the way coming. A woman who was also returning from her farm, Cameroon Tribune learnt, is reported to have seen somebody lying on the ground in the bush but did not border to verify. Following the search of the old man (in his early 70s according to family sources), the woman hinted the villagers who immediately went out to see for themselves.
The younger brother and other youths of the locality mobilized and got “Daddy Black” who admitted haven beheaded the father. He reportedly went to the house and brought out the father’s head. He was then taken to the Central Police Station where he is currently detained. Gabriel Mbonde a.k.a “Daddy Black” according to family sources has been a torn to the father’s flesh and the rest of the family.
He is said to have been on his father’s throat over monetary issues, accusing the father of selling the house and land without giving his own share. Cameroon Tribune also gathered that this is not the first time “Daddy Black” is committing such a flagitious act. He had some time ago, attempted to cut off the younger brother’s head. The incident left the brother (Ndumbe) with severe machete cuts which almost took his life.
“Daddy Black” again is reported to have raped his niece (younger sister’s child).
When he inflicted machete wounds on the brother, Cameroon Tribune learnt, he was detained in waiting trial at the Buea Central Prison but the father who is today the next victim, sold his house and land and bailed him out

This picture has been circulating on BBM, Facebook and other social networks since yesterday. I don't know how recent the picture is but it scares me to think that someone would actually do this to a fellow human being. What must have possibly gone wrong?

Was she kidnapped and tortured to death?

I am scared for girls and ladies out there, cos the person who did this to this young lady is walking free and who knows who his next victim would be.
